Ghizer Valley

Experience paradise on earth by adding Ghizer Valley to your trip. Ghizer is undeniably the most westernmost part of Gilgit. This multiethnic district is crossroads between Gilgit and Chitral and also to Tajikistan. Ghizer is a distorted form of the name “Gherz” which means “refugees” in Khowar. The instance Ghizer welcomes its visitors it makes sense why Ghizer famously is known as the land of lakes.  Home to Handarap Lake, Phander Lake, Khalti Lake, Karambar Lake, Baha Lake (Langar Khukush), Shandur Lake, Attar Lake, Mathantar Lake. Three major languages are spoken: Shina, Khowar, and Burushaski. There are also Wakhi speakers in Ishkoman and some Tajiks. Historically two main characteristics of the folk dress of Ghizer is the Khoi and the Shokah. The Khoi is headgear made of homespun woolen cloths, while the Shokah is a homespun woolen cloak reaching to the ankle with long sleeves.
