Karachi- The City of Lights

Although there is so much to see and do in Karachi, safety comes along with a bit of caution. Safety can be an issue since street crime is high here as compared to other cities of Pakistan. Since street crime is higher in Karachi than any other city of the country, you would need to keep the following things in mind:

Dress code:

Dress code is not a major issue in Karachi as western clothing is common. However, that totally depends on which part of the city are you visiting. While visiting crowded areas, it is advised to be careful, especially women. Most women in these areas prefer traditional dresses like Shalwar kameez, black veil, abaya, or anything loose.

Areas:

If you’re not a fan of public places or have developed agoraphobia, we will advise you not to visit the inner city. Moreover, the political situation is not satisfactory in these areas, including; liari, saddar, kati pahari, and landi. Other areas like defense and Clifton are generally safe.

Driving around:

Using public transport is not a bad option as residents highly prefer it, but it isn’t convenient. A better option would be to ask the hotel you’re living in to provide you with a car and a driver. Moreover, the traffic of Karachi is not very easy to understand if you’re not from Pakistan. Hence renting a car with a driver would be a wiser option.

Some Tips:

  • Take care of your gadgets, mobile phones, laptops, etc. and try not to take them out when in public.
  • Refrain from sharing your contact details.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Trust your instincts.
